WORKSHOP ON WOMENS SPIRITUALITY AND HEALTH IN EAST TIMOR

 


Theme: Prevention of HIV/AIDS



A workshop on Womens Sprituality and Health was organized in Dili in East Timor form 11th- 13th December 2009 participated by church women from Igreja Protestante Iha Timor Loro Sae [IPTL] from differnt districts . The program was part of Ecumenical Formation, Gender Justice and Youth Empowerment cluster’s ongoing project ‘Women’s Ecumenical Accompaniment Program for Vision and Empowerment (WEAVE) in East Timor. The main aim of WEAVE is to equip Church women with skills of peace building in conflict ridden societies. Dominica L. Faurillo a full time ecumenical accompanier facilitates in accompanying Church women.



Objectives of the Workshop:

Creating Awareness among Church women in East Timor to combat HIV/AIDS and Stigmatization
Evolving women’s spirituality of healing
Evolving grassroots Church women’s Theology of Dignity of Life

Ms Nina Noyan facilitated the Bible studies and morning devotions. Her Bible study on ‘Women in the Bible’ and Jesus Heals besides the Pool focused on the need for praxis and spirituality for healing and reconciliation ministry in East Timor context. Rev Daniel Marcal – Director of Church World Service facilitated sessions on ‘Awareness regarding HIV/AIDS its prevention and combating stigmatization. Dominica Faurillo facilitated a participatory sessions on ‘Gender Justice and Over coming Violence in Home’, ‘Awareness of Health and Women’s Bodies. Rev Albino- General Secretary of IPTL led the closing worship .

Outcome:
Increased awareness among Church women about women’s human’s health Rights and basis of HIV/AIDS .
Increased awareness among Church leaders about the need to support, recognize and encourage women’s contributions in building communities of peace through healing and reconciliation ministry.
Precipitation of grassroots Church women’s theology of life through their participation and sharing of stories and spiritualities
