Women’s Ecumenical Accompaniment for Vision and Empowerment (WEAVE) Project – in Timor Leste

 



WEAVE is an ongoing project of CCA-EGY to assist new CCA member Churches or Councils in need of capacity building of women in ecumenical leadership and organizational and program development through full time Ecumenical Accompanier. The program is faciliated and supported by CCA, in partnership with sending and receiving member Churches or Councils of CCA.

WEAVE in Timor Leste is an ongoing project of EGY-CCA for capacity building of women in conflict ridden societies since 2007. Previously WEAVE project was implemented in Cambodia Dominica Faurillo form 'United Church of Christ in the Philippines' is full time Ecumenical Accompanier of CCA in Timor Leste working in collaboration of ‘Igrja Protestante Iha Timor Loro Sae’- (ITPL) - Protestant Church of East Timor. IPTL is the newest member Church of CCA and also the newest country in Asia.

Objectives:

  • Accompany Church women in Timor Leste in order to help them to develop leadership skills for conflict transformation.
  • Train in management and organizational skills
  • To encourage CCA member Churches and Councils to support newer Churches.
  • To Link Women’s organizations in support of women in conflict situations.

WEAVE Activity Updates:

Organizing and Strengthening Women’s Network in Local congregations- The women of the Dilli District in Timor Leste has been organized. Ecumenical Accompanier is facilitating district officers for planning for the first General Meeting of ITPL women in July 2008.

In Baucau Church women’s fellowship group has been organized. In Maranatha Church Women’s Bible fellowship has been organized.


Establishing and Strengthening Women’s Desk of IPTL: Since the women's desk of IPTL is disfunctional in the present context due to no full time women worker- Dominica Farullio is helping IPTL to establish a women's desk . Church women are also being organized through capacity enhancement local training is grassroots level preparing them for the first ITPL women's Assembly in July where the full time women secretary will be appointed.


Self Sustainable Women’s Business Projects: Dominca Farullio -Ecumenical accompanier is facilitating Church women of IPTL to network with Nongovernmental organizations like 'Mondus Russi' and YASONA to start micro credit and other self sustainable projects.
